Registered in 1980 by John Bungay and his wife Jan, KENWYN
WOODSTOVES evolved from a general building business to include the supply and installation of woodburning stoves. They were inspired by the exposure and restoration, in their 13th century cottage, of their own Inglenook fireplace and fitting of their first ever stove...... an "ESSE DRAGON!"....
Installing woodstoves was then, mostly, a matter of fitting a flue pipe and
register plate.
As time went on it became apparent, within the industry, that fitting highly
efficient woodstoves to chimneys built for open fires was causing a number of problems, namely tar leakage / deposits (responsible for chimney fires), poor updraught and fume leakage.
More and more work involved the process of relining the chimney to
rectify these problems, to the point where it has now become the preferred choice when installing a new appliance, preventing future problems and giving peace of mind.
They were joined in 1988 by Mark Broadhead (Jan's son), previously
from an engineering background. At this stage Mark's wife, Rachel took over the secretarial support. The company changed names to "KENWYN STOVE & CHIMNEY CO." and pursued the development of specialist equipment to both assist and improve the quality of installations. Indeed the methods described in Isokern leaflets to reline a Chimney have not changed in 20 years, But the way we do it has!.
We were joined in 1994 by Steven Tomlinson, formerly employed within
the construction industry and also in 2000 by Carl Bungay (John's son) who continues the family tradition!. |
